AI Data Centre Proposed for North Lincolnshire, Promising 1,000 Jobs

AI Data Centre Proposed - DevOm Pro

A proposed AI data centre in North Lincolnshire could create up to 1,000 jobs, according to a new planning application. The development, planned for a 435-acre site of farmland near the A15 by Elsham Wolds Industrial Estate, is estimated to cost between £5.5 billion and £9 billion to build, not including the computing equipment.

The project could include up to 15 data centre buildings, an energy centre, and a greenhouse complex. During the 10-year construction phase, it’s expected to support 2,600 to 3,600 jobs annually, both on-site and off-site. The energy centre would generate up to 49.9MW of electricity yearly, while the greenhouse would use waste heat from the data centre to grow around 4,728 tonnes of tomatoes annually, creating about 64 jobs.

Additional amenities, like a creche, café, gym, and small shop, would serve workers at both the data centre and the nearby industrial estate. This follows last year’s approval of a £2.2 billion data centre near South Killingholme, expected to create nearly 400 jobs.

Residents can comment on the Elsham Wolds proposal until 26 June.
